Troubleshoot CNAME records

After you add a CNAME record to your domain's DNS settings, you can check the status of your change by looking up which CNAME records are currently in effect for your domain. For example, if you added a CNAME record to customize your forum address but the new address doesn't yet work, use these instructions to see if your change has gone live, and if so, to verify you made the change correctly.

Keep in mind that changes to DNS records make take up to 48 hours to take effect.

  1. Enter your forum's domain name (ie: forum.yourdomain.com) in the free CNAME record lookup tool provided by the following website:
    www.mxtoolbox.com

To query for CNAME records only, precede you domain name with "cname:" as in
    cname: forum.example.com

  2. Submit the form.
  3. Verify the results. For example:
    Domain
    forum.yourdomain.com.
    Type
    CNAME
    Class
    IN
    TTL
    3600
