Why is user-to-user email being sent from the outgoing email address?

When a user emails another user through the forum using the Email button on a user's profile page, we attempt to send an email from the user's email address directly to the other user's email address. However, if the user's email provider (for example, gmail.com) has prevented third-parties from sending email on their behalf, that email would fail to be sent. Therefore, we detect that case and automatically send the email from the Outgoing Email Address specified in the Settings -> Notifications section instead. That way the email is still delivered successfully. The name of the user will still appear in the email even though the Outgoing Email Address was used. Also, if a user replies to the email, they'll still properly see that the email reply is being send to the user instead of the Outgoing Email Address.

To ensure that this is less confusing for users, we recommend making the Outgoing Email Address an email address related to the forum domain or name instead of a personal email address.

If the user's email provider has not blocked third-parties from sending email on their behalf, the email will not use the Outgoing Email Address. It will properly use the user's email address.
