Two-factor authentication

Two-factor authentication (2FA) uses two separate methods to confirm your identity for authentication. One is your password and another is a 6-digit code that is generated every 30 seconds by an app on your phone. This ensures that a hacker who somehow gets your password, even by hacking your computer, still cannot access your account since they would not have the code generated by your app.

Once the option is enabled, you'll see an additional screen which asks for your two factor authentication code after logging in. You will only be able to proceed with logging in if you provide the correct code.

Two-factor authentication can be enabled or disabled by following the instructions below.

You can enable or disable two-factor authentication for the Website Toolbox account owner by following the instructions below.

  1. Log in to your Website Toolbox account.
  2. Click the avatar image or icon at the top-right of the page.
  3. In the menu that opens, select the Account link.
  4. To disable two-factor authentication, click the Disable link next to the Two-Factor Authentication option. To enable two-factor authentication, click the Enable link next to the option and follow the instructions below.

    If you don't see the Two-Factor Authentication option, it means you're logged in to the Website Toolbox account as an administrator and you should follow the other set of instructions for forum users shown below instead.

  5. Scan or copy the seed to your Authenticator App (try Authy or Google Authenticator) and enter the 6-digit code that appears into the text box on the page.
  6. Click Enable.
  7. Next time you log in, an additional screen will appear which asks for your two-factor authentication code. You can check your app to get the correct code. You'll be able to proceed with logging in only if the code is correct.

An administrator can edit a member's profile and disable the Two-Factor Authentication option under the user's Account Settings section.

You can require two-factor authentication for certain forum users.

A forum user can enable or disable two-factor authentication on their account by following the instructions below.

  1. Log in to your forum account.
  2. Click the Avatar image located towards the top right of the page.
  3. Click the Settings link in the drop down.
  4. Disable the Two-Factor Authentication option or enable it and follow the instructions below.
  5. Scan or copy the seed to your Authenticator App (try Authy or Google Authenticator) and enter the 6-digit code that appears into the text box on the page.
  6. Click Enable.
  7. Next time the user logs in, an additional screen will appear which asks for the two-factor authentication code. The user can check your app to get the correct code. You'll be able to proceed with logging in only if the code is correct.
