Integrating Google Analytics or Google Tag Manager

Google Analytics is a valuable and effective tool for monitoring the traffic on your forum. It helps you get more information regarding the page views received on your forum, such as visitor demographics, traffic sources, and viewed content.

Please follow the directions mentioned below to get the Google Analytics tracking code:

  1. Signup for or log in to your Google Analytics account.
  2. Create a new tracking ID (analytics code) for your forum under your Google analytics account by creating a new property.
  3. Provide your forum's URL and other required details to create a tracking ID (analytics code) for your forum.
  4. Get the tracking code and apply it on your Website Toolbox forum.

Once you have acquired the Google Analytics code, please follow the directions mentioned below to add it to your forum:

  1. Log in to your Website Toolbox account.
  2. Click the Integrate link in the main menu.
  3. Under the Integrate menu, select the HTML link.
  4. Paste the Google Analytics code in the Forum Footer HTML Code section.
  5. Save the changes.

A third-party website traffic analytics tool, such as Google Analytics, may show less page view usage than the Analytics section of your Website Toolbox account. This happens because the tracking code is inserted into the Integrate -> HTML section of your Website Toolbox account so that it can properly track page views. However, there are many high-traffic areas of your forum which will not load the Integrate -> HTML content on the page. Examples of this include RSS feeds, javascript feeds, and JSON feeds. Pages that do not include code from the Integrate -> HTML section will not be tracked by the third-party, and would therefore result in incorrect statistics provided by the third-party.

Additionally, because most search engine robots do not activate JavaScript, search engine robot traffic is not counted in third-party analytics tools. On the other hand, search engine robots are counted in your Website Toolbox forum page view statistics. This would also contribute to the difference in page views recorded in your third-party analytics tool and Website Toolbox. We include page views generated by a search engine robot because when a search engine views a page of your forum, our system still has to process the request the same way it would for a normal human. The same amount of memory, CPU, and bandwidth is used.
