How do I lock or un-lock a topic?
Use this feature to close topics from the public. Once a topic has been locked, no new replies will be accepted in it. It's ideal for posting announcements or making sure important discussions do not veer off topic.
You can lock or un-lock a topic by following the directions below:
- Log in to your forum account. (must be a moderator or administrator account)
- If your forum has multiple categories, click the Categories link.
- Click the link of the category where the topics are in.
- Check the checkbox next to each topic you would like to lock or un-lock.
- Click the icon and select Lock or Un-Lock from the dropdown box located towards the bottom-right of the page. If there is no icon or there are no checkboxes that means the appropriate permissions are not set for the moderator account.
Notes:
- You can also lock a topic when you are creating it. If you are logged into your moderator or administrator account when you are creating the new topic, you will see a Lock this topic option on the page.
- Moderators are exempt from locked topics. They will still be able to post replies to the topic as they normally would.
