Email addresses that contain a plus sign
Some email providers allow using tags in the email address. The tag is included after a plus sign in the email address. For example, john.smith+test@gmail.com. In this example, "test" is the tag. Email address tags are used to allow you to track how someone got your email address. For example, you could add a tag of "donation" to your email address when making a politcal donation. If you later received spam email to that same email address containing the tag, you'd know the political organization sold your email address or was sending it.
When a user creates an account on your forum, the forum treats multiple email addresses with different tags as the same email address. For example, john.smith+test@gmail.com and john.smith+donation@gmail.com are both considered the same email address since they both still send mail to the same email inbox/user. This prevents a person from signing up for multiple accounts by using different email tags.
If you want to use email tags to create multiple accounts for your own testing purposes, you can create the account through the Website Toolbox admin area. The Website Toolbox admin area allows you to do that since as the forum owner or administrator, you're a trusted user.
