Anonymous/Guest posting
Your forum can be configured to allow or disallow users to post in a specific category or all categories anonymously (without signing up). The user can optionally provide a name or alias when posting. The IP address of the user is still recorded in case it becomes necessary to ban them.
To enable or disable anonymous posting for all categories by default, follow the instructions below to change the default permissions of the Not Signed Up / Not Logged In user group:
- Log in to your Website Toolbox account.
- Click the Users link in the main menu.
- Click the Manage link next to the Not Signed Up / Not Logged In user group.
- In the Manage menu, click Permissions.
- Turn the Post Topics, Reply Topics, and Reply to own topics permissions on or off.
- Save your changes.
To enable or disable anonymous posting for a specific category, follow the instructions below:
- Log in to your Website Toolbox account.
- Click the Categories link.
- Click the Manage link next to the category of your choice.
- In the Manage menu, click the Change Permissions link.
- Select the Not Signed Up / Not Logged In user group in the drop down box.
- Turn the Post Topics, Reply Topics, and Reply to own topics permissions on or off.
- Save your changes.
You may also want to review the permissions for the Pending Email Verification and Pending Approval user groups depending on if you have the Email Verification and the Approve Users options enabled in the Users Settings. By default those user groups are not permitted to post.
