In memory of Bob Symon and Jon Symon, the Bob Symon Handball committee just endorsed a check in the amount of $500.00 and will present it to the Yes-2-Kids program (Tucson, AZ) during our handball pro stop in early January.  Luis Moreno, a Yes-2-Kids representative, will accept the gift on behalf of the Y2K program.

"Handball Pros and kids at the same tournament.  You can't get any better than this!"  - Fred Lewis... 6-time national champ

ok...so the top 12 from WPH world rankings is fine. Meanwhile that defending champ, Mando gets the 13 seed. This may be one of the best tournaments we see this year. I think this might even be a better draw in the KC area than the 4 wall nationals.

I don't know about anyone else, but the 2nd round match between Mondo and AG is my early call for match of the tournament.

Loom: Based on a little calculation I did on every competitors combined USHA/WPH ranking for each tournament in the last year, this tournament has as good a draw as Nationals. The only tournament bigger is the US Open.
Feisel: I agree. That match will be a blood bath.
And everyone keep an open mind on the seedings. There may be some players better than others that did not get seeded better. That was because of the large number of players from Chicago, KC, and St. Louis. We did everything we could to keep guys from the same town playing each other in the opening round. A huge kudos to Symon, Tom Little, and The Duck for working tirelessly over the last three days to make this event a success.

I have absolutely zero problems with the seeding. My comment on Mando at 13 was simply an observation on the quality of this tournament. I'm sure the players are fine with it, knowing they all are coming to win and you have to beat everyone to do it.

Throw one more Irish player in this draw and it definitely surpasses the 4 wall nationals from this past summer.

Mando

Keep in mind that Pettus was originally in and got injured.  Duckers was in and got injured and we eventually cut the draw to 32, or else we would have 40 entries by now!

I like Fink vs. Moreno (if it goes that far), only based on the fact that Fink just beat Emmett last weekend.

Mando vs Garner will be fun.  Mando took Allan to a TB at the Modesto CSeries quarter.  Mando was 17 at the time (2006).

Match of the tourney:  London vs Peixoto

Another good one is Alvarado vs. Lenning and Mehilos vs Nett.

PS.  Loomburger, I understood what you meant re Mando.  It's true.  When the returning champ is the #13 seed, it shows you just how big the draw is.

Why can't the draw be posted tonight?  What else do you have to work on besides this draw.  Why did they drop out?

They realized that they play into Tyree.

Shit, that takes away from the draw a bit.

Alvarado has a habit of pulling out.

Damn, was really looking forward to Tyree vs. NA (if he would have beat Scherz).  Of all the top pros, I thought Naty's style would be the best matchup chance for Tyree to try to get in a grind with.

i think they were more scared(upset?) to play each other so early in a tournament.  When was the last time those two would have met in the round of 8? I think that had more to do with it than the tyree factor since both of them waited til after the draws were posted to drop. Just a conspiracy theory by me. It is just a real odd thing to happen so late in the process.  Has anyone heard of any reasons why they dropped out? Just playing devil's advocate. I am probably wrong.

As soon as I saw the draw, I emailed no less than 5 people who shall remain nameless and stated that Naty would not be in this tournament. Naty has made a habit of pulling out of tournaments lately.

I was right. Just my observations.

Not sure the reasoning, but unless he had a major injury two days ago, nobody pulls out at the last minute.

I hope he didn't lose to much money on the flight.

The match of the tournament could come between Fink and Ortiz.

Ortiz has dominated the Midwest Open tournaments recently. He has smoked Little twice now, I believe.

I am curious to see how he will do against a top 10 pro like Fink.

Good luck to all.

Ortiz has played very well and is the top player in the midwest, but dominated is the wrong word. He beat Suhn Lee in a very close tiebreaker in Peoria. So there are a few other guys right there with him.

Jake.
