It is with great sadness and shock that I announce that one of our registered members, and one of the internet's most committed monarchists, Walter Moore of Maryland, has died of a heart attack at 57.  Walter never posted, but was a regular reader of this forum and was one of the first to register.  Over the years, his numerous e-mails of articles and links, the most recent of which had just arrived Tuesday, were an invaluable source of monarchical news.  I can hardly believe that there will be no more e-mails from him.  We never met, but spoke once on the phone awhile ago, and he always sent me a Christmas card.   I don't think I ever properly thanked him on my website for his help in enriching its content.  I will do so now.  The following is from his goddaughter.  Mr. Moore, a Roman Catholic, was unmarried and had only recently lost his own mother.

Dear Friends of Walter Moore:
On behalf of the Moore family, it is with
extreme sadness that I must notify you that on Wed., Oct. 3 our beloved
Walter suffered a fatal heart attack. Our family is devastated with
his
untimely death just 18 days after the passing of his mother. I ask you
to pray for our family as words cannot describe the loss we are
experiencing. I obtained your names from various emails received from
Walter and I have most likely missed many of his friends and
acquaintances. Please share this information with anyone you know of
that I inadvertently missed. Arrangements have not been finalized,
however a service is being planned for late next week in both Western
Maryland and the place Baltimore areas. We will forward a copy of his
obituary to you which will provide further information. Walter was the
kindest man I know.....a gentle giant.....a giving person.....a humble
being. He was intelligent, caring, witty, and a truly decent
individual. While we know he is at peace in heaven with his mother,
our
hearts feel broken just the same. Communicating with you via the
internet brought Walter great pleasure throughout the years. Walter
did
not have many pleasures and so for your correspondences, I thank you.
And for those of you who extended kindness to Walter, light will shine
upon you.
Sincerely,

Annette McKenzie
Walter's Eldest Godchild

You'll still get articles, right?

I sympathize with the loss of a close friend of yours, Theodore.

I too have been getting regular emails from Walter for many years, through the Monarchist Alliance, based in Melbourne Australia. His contribution to the Monarchist cause in this country and indeed the world will be sadly missed

Here is Walter's obituary, from the Keyser Mineral Daily News-Tribune:
Quote:
WALTER L. MOORE
WESTERNPORT, Md. - Walter L. Moore, 57, died suddenly at his home in the Horserock subdivision of Westernport, Md., on Wednesday, October 3, 2007.
Walter, who was formerly from Ellicott City, Md., was preceded in death only two weeks earlier by his mother, with whom he resided. He was also preceded in death by his father, Victor J Moore; and his best friend, Bill Dulaney.
Walter was a devoted Christian and a member of St. Peter's Church. When his good friend Bill was dying with cancer, Walter begged for God to take him instead and to keep Bill here with his wife Kathleen to raise their five children.
There is no truer love then laying one's life down for a friend. He fell in love with the mountains of Western Maryland while attending and graduating from Frostburg State University.
He returned to Baltimore and after various jobs worked for Social Security until he retired in 2004. He returned to Allegany County and shared a house with his elderly mother in April of 2004.
He loved the deer and wild turkey roaming around his house. He was a big movie buff, as well as liking the big band music and Bing Crosby. His favorite seasons were Halloween through New Years.
He loved to decorate his house and take rides to see all the area houses. His favorite Mass was the Easter Vigil. He belonged to a monarchy organization.
He was a kind and gentle soul who always had a hello and God Bless you, and “may the force be with you” for everyone he met.
Walter is survived by his sister, Mary Jane Gulck and husband, John, of Westernport; a brother, John V. Moore and wife, Elvi, of Disputanta, Va.; and youngest brother Michael Moore and wife, Val, Baltimore.
He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Annette McKenzie, Melissa Moore, Kellee Smith, Victor and Perry Moore, Christopher Moore and John Gulck, Jr. He also has two great-nephews, Coty McKenzie and Chandler Gulck; great-niece, Megan Moore; and a Godson, Henry Dulaney.
A Mass of Christian burial will take place at St Peter's Catholic Church, Westernport, on Thursday, Oct. 11, at 11 a.m. with Father Jim Hannon as celebrant. The family will receive friends at the church at 10:30 a.m.
A second Mass will be celebrated at The Church of the Resurrection in Ellicott City on Friday, Oct. 12, at 11 a.m. with Monsignor James McGovern as celebrant.
Friends will be received at the Church at 10:30 a.m.
Walter will be laid to rest at Crestlawn Memorial Gardens, 2150 Mount View Rd, Marriottsville, MD.
The family asks that memorials be sent to St. Peter's Catholic Church, 127 Church St., Westernport, MD 21562.
Fredlock Funeral Home in Piedmont, W.Va., is in charge of the arrangements.

An update on the legacy of our forum's only (as far as I know) deceased former member:

Moore scholarship will benefit FSU political science majors

For the Cumberland Times-News
Cumberland Times-News
FROSTBURG — For Walter Moore, Westernport resident Mary Jane Gülck’s late brother, the chance to attend Frostburg State University was a dream come true for a child who had fought a number of serious physical difficulties since birth and whose family was told he was unlikely to even finish high school.

Moore’s legacy will now live on in the Walter Moore Endowed Scholarship Fund through the FSU Foundation, benefiting political science majors at FSU who have financial need. Gülck said her brother was a kind and giving man, so she and her other brothers, John Victor and Michael, along with other donors, added $7,500 to $2,500 left from a special bequest of Walter’s to help out future FSU students.

“He was a kind and gentle soul who always had a ‘hello’ and “God bless you’ and ‘may the force be with you’ for everyone he met,” Gülck said. “He was just a delight – so kind to everybody,” she said.

Moore dealt all his life with coordination, speech and vision problems, but encouraging teachers and counselors throughout his schooling recognized his ability and worked tirelessly with him, Gülck said. He graduated high school and came to Frostburg for college, where he found more helping hands, she said.

“He lucked out with John Bambacus and John Wiseman.” He had a longtime love of political science and history, and he graduated as a political science major with honors.

“Walter was certainly one of those unforgettable and memorable characters that grace the classroom,” said Bambacus, professor emeritus of the Department of Political Science. “He was intelligent, well-read, and possessed a sense of certainty about himself, as well as wry humor, that endeared him to all. But he was more. Walter embraced his education at FSU far beyond the classroom and always kept in touch with professors and those who mattered to him.”

Wiseman, professor emeritus of the Department of History, recalled frequent, fervent, but good-natured arguments about politics and monarchy, which was a particular interest of Walter’s. “He was always willing to argue, and he would hold his ground,” Wiseman said. “He was just very upbeat and eager to learn, a very lovable guy.”

He spent most of his career working for Social Security in Baltimore, retiring early as a quality review technician when he developed a vision problem. His sister said he was so popular that they had to turn people away from his retirement party.

Moore loved Allegany County, where Gülck lives, and had always wanted to return. After retiring, he took that opportunity, moving with their mother, Mary, to Westernport, near his sister. He cared for his mother until her death.

To Gülck’s sorrow, just two weeks later in October of 2007, her brother was dead, too, after complaining of nothing more serious than a dizzy spell the day before. He was 57. Gülck was devastated that her “gentle giant” of a brother was gone, and so soon after losing her mother. As time has passed, her grief has turned into reflection.
