So I was recently directed here from Narbonic. Upon first reading of the archives, I had the following thoughts: - yeah, the girls are improbably hot, as advertised - but geez, that blonde's one mental - in fact... haven't I seen or heard of this before? Which got me to look up the following article:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sociopathy I would like to point out the following excerpts: - "failure to conform to social norms with respect to lawful behaviors as indicated by repeatedly performing acts that are grounds for arrest" - "impulsivity or failure to plan ahead" - "irritability and aggressiveness, as indicated by repeated physical fights or assaults" - "reckless disregard for safety of self or others" - "consistent irresponsibility, as indicated by repeated failure to sustain steady work or honor financial obligations" - "lack of remorse , as indicated by being indifferent to or rationalizing having hurt, mistreated, or stolen from another" But, like I said, I'm new around here. Has anyone pointed this out before? Edit: Oh, yeah. Aren't they supposed to be in Scotland? So why are Kate and Nils doing running around in bikinis all the time? It's effing cold up there.

Nils is Nils. I don't think too much about the characters, just go along for the ride. Yeah, the castle is in Queensland somewhere. Brief stop over in... Greenland was it? Queensland has lovely bikini weather.

(shrug) I just bring it up because it might have implications for the story, if the character's really being written that way. The way I've had it explained to me, sociopathy - true, honest-to-God sociopathy - isn't a lifestyle choice. It's a condition that's comparable to - and is sometimes caused by - brain damage. It isn't that sociopaths *don't like* being responsible and empathic and what not and choose to be otherwise - it's that they *can't* be those things. They just don't have the circuits for it.
Anyway, that's one way the artist might choose to go about it. It'd be an interesting choice, pairing up someone who literally can't feel anxiety - Nils - with someone whose life is dominated by social anxiety - Jeremy. Kind of like the Odd Couple, with a twist.
Sorry for the overanalysis. I just graduated with an English major. Theoretically, someone'll be paying me to think this way about stuff in the future. Y'know. Any day now. When pigs start flying.

Well duh Nils is a sociopath, that's the point. But at the end of the day she does it in an adorably cute and vulnerable way, and I don't put much stock in any analysis of her personality or her relationship with Jeremy that doesn't iclude the term "Aww" somewhere in it

She does seem to genuinely care for Jeremy though, and she knows that he can take it.
Besides, gaff tape fixes all.

I remember roadying with a band once, and the mixer was a gaff-master of the highest order. He made an incredibly well-designed beer holder for the side of the minivan, and reminisced about making a pair of board-shorts out of gaff one warm festival day[1]...
He held that gaff-tape is proof of extra-terrestial life, as it was so mind-bogglingly useful that it was beyond human technology...
[1] costing approx 5x the cost of an actual pair of board shorts, but that's hardly the point

Well, it still isn't helping him any. Also, gaff tape = U.S. duct tape?

I don't think she is a sociopath. She is just extremely prideful and incapable of admitting wrongdoing. In other words, a bitch.
She occasionally shows flashes of almost-remorse, but apologizing or changing would be like admitting that she is wrong, which she can't do. I doubt she can even admit these things to herself.
She obviously feels an emotional connection to Jeremy. After ditching him in Greenland, she made her way to the castle grounds, to wait for him to show back up. Her arrogance prevented her from going back to find him.
I think she has reached a point in her life where she wants an emotional connection to someone. When she first met Jeremy, she was bored stiff with yet another party full of drunks, and invited herself into his house, when every other person in her life has been easily discarded. And she has stuck with him, more or less.
Jeremy may be the catalyst that is causing her to grow up, if only in a two steps forward, one step backward kind of way.
But is it worth it, from Jeremy's standpoint? She does keep him fairly beaten down most of the time. Granted, she seems to be trying to drag him out of his shell, sexually, but she is doing it in the only way she knows. Blunt and blatant. This is only causing Jeremy to retreat into his shell further.
Anyway, these are just my thoughts.
