As some of you may know I had a major setback recently.  I too a large dose of Lyrica a few hours ago and boy has my hyperacusis improved.  The typing on the keyboard for example does not bother me one bit and it did before.  I don't know what this means but Lyrica really seems to help my hyperacusis, and my tinnitus for that matter.  I just e-mailed my neurologist and will report back with his thoughts.

Best wishes to all.

It can effect hyper-sensitive neurons.  He increased my dose so we shall se what happens.  I just want to get wll enough to be able to toleare TRT.  Right now I don't think my ears could handle the generators.

I was recently prescribed Lyrica and chose not to take it, the side effects said something about ringing in the ears but sounds like you have not had that. I'd be interested in hearing what others have to say about Lyrica too?
Congrats!

Lyrica actually reduces the volume of my ringing.

This is not about Lyrica.  I'm just trying to let you know that I have written twice about TRT and Neuromonics and wrote this morning.  Hopefully the messages today went through.  There is some problem with our e-mail.

It's great that Lyrica is helping you.  Perhaps renie should try it especially since she needs dental work.

Martha,

Why don't you private message me rather than e-mail me about the TRT and Neuromonics?  Thanks... Ben

This is really encouraging to read. Ben, could you be more precise about the dose you took?

Hi Ben

I am a newcomer and just noticed your post about Lyrica. I have Neurontin on my hand but haven't taken yet. It's amazing to know single dose had made your hyperacusis improve. Could you tell me about the cause and duration of your hyperacusis?

Best regards

A few weeks ago I started Gabapentin.  The Dr. had me gradually start until I got up to 500mg per day.  There was no real difference.  When I went back to see him he upped it to 900mg.   Wow, it was instant my hyperacusis went away.  I took my kids to a movie and did not have to wear my musician molds and I did not have bad ear pain an dheadaches afterwards.  There was a slight discomfort close to the time to take my next dose but nothing I could not tolerate.
Now that I have been on it a week, I start to notice that as it gets close to the time to take another my ears and head start to hurt.  I have to go back to the Dr. next week to see if I need a higher dose.  But I am so excited cause I have energy back and can do things I have not done for a long time.

very happly for you, skittlesmom

'Instant' effect of any medicine seems to be a luxury for h or t, lucky you.

Do you also have tinnitus? Does the intensity of t also decrease?

Take care!

I have T occaisionally.   I still have some T but it has been the H that was the worse so I honestly haven't noticed if it is better or not.

Skittlesmom,

Be careful.  I alos had a magical disappearance of H when going on Lyrica.  But while my sound toleranes appeared to go back to normal, I wasn't really norma.  I went to a movie and experienced a major setback.  So you should get your LDLs checked even though you may feel fine, and expose yourself to sound gradually.

Ben
