I am on a Facebook book club and although we don't meet in person we have quite a few members. I have recommended The Other Life several times now because I just loved the book.
It was one of those books I had never heard of and I needed something to read. While at the library I came across this book in a pile to be buy back on the shelf. I picked it up took it home and fell in love with it straight away! I didn't want it to end it was so good.
So, even though I have no one to personally speak to about this book, I do hope that everyone in the Facebook group does read it and passes it along to others.
Thank you so much for this book. I can't wait to read more!!!

Why did your book club choose THE OTHER LIFE? The idea of an escape was intriguing

The book club is very informal and is more about there being a book everyone wants to read rather than getting together and trying to choose a book to read. The Other Life is a perfect example. It was a book we as individuals wanted to read and needed someone to talk to about later.If nothing else (and there was plenty else) we all got to admit to secretly looking for that portal in our own homes.

Why did your book club choose THE OTHER LIFE? I saw your post about The Other Life interview on CafeMom and got the audio book from Audible. We decided to read the hard copy as a group because three of us have listened to the audio version on our own and absolutely adore it!

Ellen, you are one of the most gifted writers I have ever had the pleasure to read. When discussing The Other Life as a choice for our November book my friend Nancy made a statement I just have to share with you:
"Ellen Meister is my new favorite author! I hate to compare any author to another because the good ones are all individuals and no one should "evoke" another writer in their work, it will always be different from the other's work, but Ellen is definitely a new Nora Roberts or Debbie Macomber with just a teeny bit of Barbara Kingsolver darkness...sheer magic!"
I have to whole heartedly agree as does the rest of our group! You are magic!

I liked knowing that through reading this book, I am not off base in wondering about the things in my past that could have been done differently to change the outcome of the future that I am now living. I could feel so much of that book. I also like a book that can take me through a whole range of emotions. This book did it for me.
